OUR INSTRUCTORS & EXAMINERS
Robert Lightfoot – License Examiner, Driving & Classroom Instructor
Bob was a teacher at Faith Christian Academy for 37 years. While there, he taught Driver’s Education, AP Biology, AP History and Anatomy & Physiology. He’s been a Driver’s Ed instructor since 1976. Needless to say, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience working with teens and adults in all kinds of driving situations. Married for 42 years, he and his lovely wife have a son and daughter. Bob is always ready with a smile, joke or quick story and can put even the most nervous driver at ease.
Don Corthell – Commercial Driver’s License Examiner, Behind-the-Wheel & Classroom Instructor
Don LOVES anything to do with driving and teaching; his enthusiasm and expertise are infectious. He’s been in the transportation industry since 1968 and has teaching driving skills since 1970. He’s currently the Assistant Transit Manager for the Buff Bus program at the University of Colorado where he teaches college students to drive buses—up to 62 feet long—for the campus transit program and all classes of CDL. We’re lucky to have him on our staff as well. He’s certified as a Defensive Driving Instructor and is a Commercial Driver’s License instructor and tester. He has 5 children and 10 grand kids. Don also has certifications from the Department of Transportation Safety Institute in Safety, Training, Operations, and advance accident investigation.
Peter Mason - License Examiner, Driving & Classroom Instructor
Peter spent 15 years driving in Dubai and the desert while he was teaching at the American University of Sharjah. Talk about a unique driving and teaching environment! He is married and has two young granddaughters. Camping and fishing takes up what little time is left over.
Debi Tombling – License Examiner, Driving & Classroom Instructor
Born and raised in Denver, Debi comes from a long line of Colorado natives. Another huge Broncos fan, she loves lives with her sister and their 2 canine fur babies. She’s done daycare, worked with Jr. and Sr. high school students in her church youth group and has ten years experience driving a school bus. Name a job and Debi has probably done it: anything from fast food, to floral arranging, daycare to school bus driving and barbering to aesthetics. She’s even a published poet! Her hobbies are just as diversified… baking, anything from birthday to wedding cakes to adult beverage cupcakes (and yes, they taste as good as they sound!)
Mark Richardson – Classroom Instructor
Born in Sacramento California, Mark married his high school sweetheart. At age nineteen, he supported his family by driving a school bus. Mark then took on the job of assisting the principals in seven different schools by reporting on the local gang’s graffiti, truancy and after-school fights. From there, he worked in the California Department of Corrections Mental Institution for eight years. He moved to Colorado to follow his true passion: writing. He has written three books, two of which are online; the third is looking to be made into a possible movie.
Books by Mark Richardson:
- Cars and Guns: What’s the difference?
- Rise of the W.I.T.C.H.E.S
- Women in Touch Can Heal Every Soul
Beverly Bravo – Spanish Classroom Instructor
Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Beverly earned a BA in Spanish and an MPA in Public Administration from the University of Colorado. To become fluent in Spanish, she studied in Mexico and Spain and worked in state government and public housing after graduation. She loves her dogs (as you can see) and salsa dancing. In 2008, she studied bilingual education and special education at Metropolitan State University of Denver and gained valuable teaching experience in Denver Public Schools classrooms. Her work experience is diverse and most recently she has taught dance, tutored elementary students and worked for immigration law firms; she’s always happiest working where she can speak Spanish!
Judy Gallenstein – License / Permit Examiner
Judy joins us with a world of experience as a classroom instructor and driving examiner. Fluent in Chinese and English, Judy is a true entrepreneur who loves to cook, does traditional dance and keeps active hiking every week. She loves to travel and has degrees in International Trade and Network Engineering.
OUR OFFICE STAFF
Connie Sutliff – Receptionist
Connie is usually the first face you’ll see when you come into our office or hers will be the bubbly voice you hear when you call our office. She’s a wealth of information, keeps everything running smoothly and points us all in the right direction. It’s no surprise! She’s the busy mother of three. She is a native of Colorado and grew up in nearby Green Mountain. So, if you’re confused about the driver’s license process in Colorado or have a question, Connie’s the one to ask – just don’t make any disparaging remarks about the Broncos, she’s an avid fan who will be sporting a #7 jersey on game day.
Jen Baca – Receptionist
Jen is an artist at heart and as well as currently studying to be an accountant. Yes, we know: Total opposites, but that works for her! She even had a painting in a gallery show. This is her junior year at National American University and she’s a member of the honor society. She hopes she can brighten you day with her friendly personality.
Karen Jolly – Receptionist
Karen and her husband have two adult children and a recent grandchild who has stolen her heart. She’s a Colorado native and worked for over a decade as a Ministry Associate in a local church and has played the flute since high school. She’s gone through the driver’s license process as a parent and understands the stress parents can feel around their teens starting to drive. Karen is a Colorado Avalanche fan and, like Connie, don’t be surprised if she’s wearing burgundy and steel blue on game day.
Kayla Gamroth – Receptionist
Kayla, another Colorado native, is currently studying to be a nurse at Red Rocks Community College. She loves helping people and making them feel good. She loves football … more than Connie, she would say. (And…we all know better than to go there. Don’t get between a fan and their team let alone two die-hard fans!) No kids, just yet, but she can’t wait to be a mom. We’re thrilled she’s part of the team.
Whitney Wogan – Co-Owner, Drive Test Examiner, Classroom Instructor Matt Van Wormer – Co-Owner, Tech Support
Whitney and her husband, Matt, are the owners of Learn to Drive. They previously owned and operated Wheelchair Getaways of Colorado, an accessible van rental company. Whitney is in charge of the day-to-day operations at the school and is a license examiner and classroom instructor. She’s worked on ranches and farms and has driven swathers, bailers, tractors, combines, grain trucks and Unimogs. She’s passionate about business as a force to improve people’s live and has worked with women in her business, Women with Money Moxie and as a Co-Host for Own It, Sister! radio. She loves the everyday occurrence when a customer says, “I’m so thankful you’re here” or when a student says “I had no idea there was so much to driving!” Matt and Whitney have been married for 28 years. He’s the chief cheerleader and the behind-the-scenes tech guy. They have two daughters who have gotten their driver’s license in the last five years–phew!–so they understand what parents go through.
All of our instructors have extensive experience and training in Behind-the-Wheel instruction and defensive driving techniques. They’re able to pass on years of driving experience to make all of our students safe and skillful drivers.
